Why Should You Taste the Lafite 1982(拉菲1982)

If you have a conversation with those who are truly knowledgeable about wines, there are a few special names that will certainly come up. 1961 Chateau Latour, 1921 Chateau d’Yquem, 1947 Chateau Cheval-Blanc and Domaine Ramonet, Montrachet 1993 would be just some of them. However, one name that will certainly feature in the list of wines that one must taste in their lifetime would be the Lafite 1982. So much so, that this very Lafite(拉菲)vintage has ranked as one of the most expensive wines to ever be sold in the world! At auctions held in many cities, around the world, a case of this vintage will commanded five to six figure amounts!

Lafite actually is a Gascon term which refers to a small hill and the vineyard is owned by the Rothschild family, which is why the winery is named Chateau Lafite Rothschild. The winery changed many hands, before it finally came to this family. This is certainly the largest vineyard in the Medoc region and covers over 100 hectares. From Cabernet Sauvignon to Cabernet Franc and a very special Merlot, there is much that is produced here.

Known to produce some of the finest and perhaps the most expensive red wines, this winery was awarded with the First Growth status. While there are several special vintages, including the 1787, 1961 and 2005, it is the Lafite 1982 that has garnered the maximum attention. Today, even the newly produced wines are gaining popularity, especially because they can be added to collections and left to age. It is said that this wine offers a full bodied taste and works well with all kinds of red meats. This flavor is said to be mainly because of the soil conditions in the area and the times at which the grapes are harvested.
